Sometime I notice that while I have my sail a bit slack, it's not in the best spot for the current wind, sometime if you tighten it up, it'll swing the sail around into a better position for the wind after you've changed direction. Just keep an eye out when the wave passes you, you'll drop fast and those obstacles can pop up quickly beneath you. The waves are tall and very visually obvious, if you can keep on the top of them you'll go a lot faster, and ride above some of the obstacles. It's a lot easier to realize in the bits between chapters. I don't have a good way to describe this for open sailing, but pay attention to the direction they're moving and play around to see how you can use them to give a bit of a boost, especially going into the wind. It can be really easy to flip the boat doing this, and remember you can partially lower the sail if you're having trouble controlling your boat. Going perpendicular to the wind can get you going really fast, loosen up the sail partway so it's angled to the wind, and hold on and watch the waves. Keep a watch on things, as a tight sail can knock you over too. If you want to go somewhere against the wind, tighten up the sail and zig zag towards the destination, going at something around 45 degrees to the wind. ![]() But if you just try using video game logic, you might end up thinking rowing is faster instead of skipping across waves. The game has a pretty nice sailing system in it once you learn it. Use a bow on the gloomwhatever lizards from a bit of a distance if you have trouble with their constant disappearing and killing you like I did.īiggest help is to look up some info on sailing. I tend to put a fire with drying rack on my boat so I'll always have one around to cook meat and cure leather.Īnimals react differently depending on how you attack them, seems that ranged attacks tend to send them running, but they'll fight you if you close in. If you die, particularly on Survivalist difficulty, you will lose every item that isn’t in the “Held” section of your crafting menu, which you won’t be happy about.You'll be pretty limited in the beginning on weapons, so don't worry too much about that. If you don’t use them straight away, ensure that you keep these crystals on you at all times. If you have a hammer, you can mine these blocks, they take three hits before they break, to unearth either crystal.Įach deposit gives you one gem, but one is enough to make a powerful weapon like the Torment Bow, or something like the Gloomharrow Figurehead. If you explore each island thoroughly, you might notice rocky deposits with an orange or purple glow beneath their exterior. ![]() The second location is from Leviathan’s Heart and Storm’s Eye deposits. This is random, however, so don’t bet on acquiring either from vases you break. You may strike lucky by smashing the bigger vases and unearth a gem. The first is from the blue vases that you can find at destroyed human settlements, or on small islands. There are two locations that you can obtain them from. ![]() If better weapons and a faster boat sound appealing, you will want to know where you can find Leviathan’s Heart gems and Storm’s Eye crystals.
